ORC Grand Prix Rule 2007

Since its launching, ORC was constantly monitoring development of the GP 33 class taking in account comments and requests from sailors, designers and boat builders always keeping on mind the original intention of the class of fast, sound and seaworthy boats keeping their good value beyond their competitive life as grand prix racers. As a result, the following class rule changes have been agreed:

- Number of spinnakers on board while racing is increased to 3
- Asymmetric spinnaker(s) may include Code 0
- ASL limit is increased to 15.40 and AMG to 10.90 m
- Max MDL1 is increased to 0.200 m
- Bowsprit pole must be retractable

GP Class rules in 2007 format are being updated with these changes, where all  the references to the IMS rules are still related to the 2007 version. However, new GP Class rules will be separated for the GP 26, GP 33 and GP 42 class, related to the IMS 2008, keeping the same substance as the currently published class rules. New GP 33 class rules will be posted soon. Until then the 2007 version may be used.

Following developments of the GP 33 Class and several boats being under the process of design or contruction, ORC was receiving several requests from designers and owners for ammendments and improvements of the class rules including some changes on already taken decisions. It is intention of the ORC to keep GP 33 class as a middle size Grand Prix Class of boats fun to sail, seaworthy, easy to handle with good value keeping. After taking in consideration all the aspects and arguments coming from designers and owners with both technical and economical backgrounds, ORC has decided to update the GP 33 class rules as follows:”

- Carbon and Kevlar are permitted as hull and deck materials
Spinnaker pole is not allowed
A bowsprit is permitted, with maximum TPS measurement of 6.00 m

All the relevant ORC Rules and Regulations available on the web are updated with this change.
