A
group of South American sailors, designers and boat builders are
working together in order to organize an promote the GP 26 in
South America. Presently there is one first boat in the water
plus another three under construction due to hit the water in
the next two months
The group strongly believes that the concept and price target is
very adequate for South American sailing. Near term plans are to
establish a website, get the international racing program
approved by ORC and to establish contacts with other continents
as well.
During April to October 2007, the group foresees to race under
YCA Racing program under IMS. In Oct/Nov 2007 it is foreseen to
compete in the Semana de Buenos Aires as a National GP 26 Class.
Further to compete in January 2008 as a class and under IMS at
the "Rolex Circuito de Verano" (Punta del Este in Uruguay).
Several more regattas in 2008 are planned.
Contacts with European sailing teams after summer of 2008 are
higly encuoraged and the South American GP 26 Group under
Secretary Naval Designer Martin Billoch together with Yacht Club
Argentino are now preparing to offer the GP 26 2008 Worlds to
take place in Argentina.
