The Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club, GKSS, is pleased to welcome you to the ORC International European Championship 2008 on the west coast of Sweden. The event will be held between the 3rd and the 9th of August on the island of Marstrand, 47 km north of Gothenburg (Göteborg).

The Marstrand fjord has been the main venue for international regattas on the Swedish west coast for at least 100 years. The island of Marstrand has an interesting history as an important trading port and with its military fortifications. In more recent years the city of Marstrand is a recreation place and offers both interesting sailing events and rich cultural life for many people in the region.




The inshore sailing races will take place on open waters on the west side of the island, where wind and sea conditions are quite predictable. In the afternoon the breeze fills in, which makes sailing conditions most optimal. After each day’s races we gather at the yacht club for refreshments and daily first prize giving.

On Marstrand there are many shops, art galleries, bars, cafeterias, restaurants, music and other festivities. During the ORC International European Championship 2008 there will be various activities. The organizers will provide a good social agenda for everybody, including family members. At the end of the week all competitors are welcome to enjoy and participate in the final prize giving party on this picturesque island.
