The unsettled wind did not allowed the Race Committee to set the intended Windward-Leeward course and established an alternative known as Circuito Solanas. The starting line was in front of the YC Punta del Este passing marks off Banquitos, in front of Gorriti Island, then to Monarca, Punta Ballenas and Solanas buoys, completing a 14.7 miles circuit. The regatta was scheduled to start at 1300, but unfortunately the Race Commitee had to reschedule it to 1500 and then had to postpone for another 25 minutes.

Conditions were brisk, with 23 knots of wind from the South and 2-3 meters waves at the start. Even though Kirkor Simsiroglu's “Funcei San Gregorio” had the fastest start, the first yacht to complete the first leg was the Argentina Navy's yacht “Fortuna III” skippered by Gabriel Malnati.

In corrected time, Toribio de Achaval's “Matrero” took the victory in the ORC Club class and “Fortuna III” won overall in ORC International.
