In a fleet of 24 entries racing from Tonbergs YC on the west side of the Oslofjord, Jan Henrik Bryde's IMX 40 Xantippe has taken an early lead after the first day of the ORC Norwegian Championship. Xantippe's lead may not be a surprise, having been the only competitor from Norway competing in last month's ORC Europeans in Ystad, Sweden. Xantippe has a 6-point lead over the X-382 Felicia IV, followed by the GS37 Xtreme.
The day's racing was in 10 knots of wind on a 6-mile windward-leeward course, with the breeze being primarily from the west and southwest quadrant. The good wind and current-free conditions were reminiscent of the 2007 World Championship held in Hanko.
Conditions on Day Two, however, are expected to quite different, with 25-30 knots from the north in the forecast.
