Organizers
at the Sailing Club
of Rijeka (SCOR) and
ORC have announced a
change of dates for
the 2012 ORCi
Mediterranean
Championship to
10-16 June 2012.
The date change has
been made to allow
entries to also
participate at the
next major ORC event
in the Mediterranean
region, the 2012
ORCi European
Championship to be
held over 23-30 June
at YC Punta Ala in
Italy.
Held at the site of the 2011 ORCi World Championship in Cres, the Mediterranean Championship will feature two days of measurement and preparation over 10-11 June, followed by five days of inshore racing, with no offshore races planned. The event venue and all shoreside activities will be at the ACI Marina in Cres, with racing to be held in the waters west of Cres harbor under the direction of Principal Race Officer Alfredo Ricci.
“Cres has been a favored destination for sailors for many, many years,” said Regatta Director Zoran Grubisa, “and since 1999 there have been 14 championship-level IMS and ORC events held here. The ambience of Cres is a big attraction, and generally the sailing conditions in June are excellent. This past year’s ORCi World Championship attracted 119 boats from 16 countries, a record number of entries, so we expect to also have a strong turnout for the Mediterranean championship.”
A discounted entry fee level of €400/boat has been extended to the end of January, when the fee then raises to €600 until the end of May, and then rises again to €1000. Among numerous benefits, the entry fee entitles boats to free dockage at the ACI Marina Cres from 9-17 June, as well as support vehicle parking, shoreside entertainment after racing, and a full range of regatta support available onsite.
